On July 26th 2016, Doug and Sally Beitz will hand over their family business, a luxury waterfront resort in Micronesia to a stranger for $49 USD.

The couple, together with their four sons, have owned and operated Kosrae Nautilus Resort, for 24 years, but are ready to leave paradise to become full-time grandparents back home in Australia.

Anyone anywhere in the world over the age of 21 is eligible to win the profitable business located on a remote volcanic island in an untouched part of the Western Pacific Ocean by simply purchasing a $49 raffle ticket.

The idea to hold the raffle instead of a traditional sale stemmed from the Beitz’s desire to hand over their lives’ work to someone who has dreamed of island life just like they once did and will continue to respect the island’s precious ecosystem — not simply the person with the deepest pockets.

“We wanted to make our resort affordable for everyone,” Doug Beitz explained. “While we are sad to part with it, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to make someone’s dreams come true.”

Kosrae Nautilus Resort and its accompanying scuba operation is debt-free, highly-rated, and staffed by 16 long-term employees. So whether the winner chooses to run the operation themselves or hire someone else to do it for them, the prize offers an ongoing income, which includes a minimum of 55% occupancy through August 2017.

Each raffle entrant will also receive a little piece of paradise in the form of an ocean themed photograph shot by award-winning photographer Matt Shepherd, whose work typically sells for $300 a print.
