How To: Create the Perfect Smokey Eye
Like the little black dress, the smoky eye is timelessly sexy. Ultra glam and great for your holiday nights, we’ve compiled five easy steps for achieving a smoldering smoky eye.
Step 1: Prime
It is important to prime the eye area to ensure your makeup stays all night.
Apply the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer under the eye to brighten and banish any dark circles; it’s lightweight but packs a punch for coverage with a matte effect.
Step 2: Highlight
To make the eyes look bigger and brighter remember to highlight the inner arch of the eyebrow and the inner eye. Use the Dare hue! Brow Pencil from MAC, it’ soft white gold shade is subtle but effective.
Step 3: Brow
Your brows should be on point, and for this use Benefit’s Brow Zings Eyebrow Shaping Kit – after all they’re the number 1 favourite in the UK for brows. Use the shades to fill in any gaps and define the brow – remember to follow the natural line of your brows.
Step 4: Eyeshadow
A smokey gold has been popular this year and for this use a multi eyeshadow palette such as the Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow Palette for contemporary soft shades.
Apply the light shade all over the eyelid with a medium size brush in an arch shape around the crease, going up towards the brow. Blend with the fingers for a subtle look.
Then sweep the medium shade along the eye crease and blend outwards. Build the darker gold shades from mid eyelid and outwards.
To ramp up the glitter factor, add the Urban Decay Moondust glitter eyeshadow for an amazing sparkle.
Lastly, use the Toofaced Sketch Marker Liquid Art Liner as the eyeliner on both the top of the bottom of the lashes for maximum impact.
Tip: If you make a shadow mistake dip a cotton bud in a little concealer and it will erase any unwanted smudging.
Step 5: Lashes
For long lashes without extensions, coat with a high intensity mascara like the Burberry Bold Mascara, which gives both volume and length for a bold look.
