Jami Alix on Creativity and What’s Next for the Rising Star

Born in Chicago, IL, Jami Alix always felt a passion for content creation. After spending a summer working in fashion in Los Angeles, she knew she was in the right place. Her side hustle eventually led to an ever-growing passion for photography and creative direction. Jami decided to take the leap and move to Los Angeles, where she has resided for 6 years. She created her own fashion and lifestyle blog where she shares her fashion inspirations, beauty product reviews, home decor, and her travel adventures. Along with her blog, she has since discovered her love for acting, and has just been cast in her first major role in the series “Boo, B****” on Netflix. Her dynamic and goofy personality is seen on her YouTube channel, where she films vlogs of her fun activities and outings.

In addition to her creative skills, Jami is passionate about showing others that they are beautiful despite their inner insecurities. The young actress has fought her own internal demons after being diagnosed with scoliosis, having spinal fusion, and having to wear a back brace for 3.5 years after the surgery. She took her diagnosis in stride and continued to persevere and do what she loves.

Jami’s biggest charitable focus is helping dogs in need. She has always loved dogs and has two of her own, named Charlie and Luna who are frequently featured on her Instagram. She plans on devoting time to helping with dog rescues and truly being hands-on.

What inspired your ever-growing passion for photography and creative direction?

Probably my control issues. I think being able to create and produce my own content was a great way for me to get used to being in front of the camera and exploring a variety of different creative passions.

Tell us about your fashion and lifestyle blog! What are you currently working on?

I’ve been blogging for the last few years professionally, and it’s really been fulfilling to develop close relationships with brands that align with me throughout the years. Right now, I’m actually working on a new website, which should be up by the end of the month!

You have recently been cast in your first major role in the series “Boo, Bitch” on Netflix! What has been the best part of your role and working on set?

The best part will always be the people. We truly did create such a close-knit community, and a lot of my castmates will be in my life forever, so the friendships that happened on screen were also very much present off-screen. I also think there’s just nothing better than looking forward to waking up early in the morning, getting a coffee and then heading to set. So, coffee and friends.

What attracted you to begin a career as an actor?

I’ve always been interested in performing arts, and when I started taking acting classes, I just felt like I could let go and be a kid again. Whenever I feel closer to my younger self, I know I’m doing something right.

Who are your biggest influences?

That is a laundry list of people honestly. Is it cheesy to say everyone around me? I feel like the people we hang around the most influence the kind of person we are daily, and I’m really happy to report that I would be happy being a combination of all my favourite people. Also, the entire cast of New Girl.

Tell us about your mission to empower women to overcome their inner insecurities.

I’m pretty open about my struggles and insecurities online because I think it’s important to remember that we are all just human, and no one has it more figured out than the next person. Social media can be so deceiving *most* of the time, and I’d like to be a gentle reminder that even when I look like I’m thriving, you’re only really seeing the highlights.

You also work with dog rescues. What led you to this charitable focus?

I think, in another life, I was a dog. I can’t really explain to you how much I love dogs, and how desperate I am to save all of them, so it’s incredibly fulfilling and therapeutic for me to volunteer and help out with that mission. I also get to smush a lot of jowls and rub lots of bellies.

The entertainment industry is full of stress and pressure; what do you do to tackle the pressure that comes with your work?

Therapy baby!! Every week!

How do you manage your personal and professional life?

Therapy and medication for my generalized anxiety and ADD. I think this is something I keep having to teach myself over and over truthfully.

What is next for you?

I’ll see you on Netflix again next year for a few episodes on the upcoming ‘On My Block’ Spinoff, ‘Freeridge’!

Jami Alix’s Holiday Rules

What is your favourite travel destination?

Home with my family and dogs. Travel can sometimes feel stressful, so I like to give myself the opportunity to go back home to Chicago and literally do nothing over the holidays.

Favourite hotel?

The Pierre in NYC. So iconic!!

Your vacation style?

Loves to lounge around. I’m not big on adventure or activities when I could just relax.

3 packing essentials?

Depends where we’re going! I’d say lip balm, sunscreen, and an external charger.

Your packing advice?

Just buy Beis. It’s worth it.

The one beauty product you can’t live without?

Self-tanner. If you can’t tone it, tan it.
