Madison Martina’s Holiday Rules

Madison Martina is not only signed to OModels LA, Next Miami and Body London, but also founded her own swimwear line, Kamari Swim. Growing up in Florida, swimsuits were Madison Martina’s wardrobe staple. However, she rarely felt confident in a swimsuit since they never fit just right. She saw this as her opportunity to create liveable swimwear, innovatively designed to mold comfortably to the body and allow for easy movement. Uncomfortable swimwear is restricting and makes those wearing it hyperconscious of their appearance. Poorly made swimwear isn’t a reflection of one’s beauty, but Madison knows it can feel that way. That’s why it’s Kamari’s mission to make swimwear that fosters confidence and feelings of empowerment in one’s own body. Whether the agenda is to sunbathe, swim or socialize, Kamari Swim will always be flattering and functional. From bikinis and one-pieces to cover-ups, Kamari’s designs are sultry, sexy, multi-functional and confidence boosting. Kamari Swim is where swimwear is made to be comfortable, practical, and on-trend.

Congratulations on your new swimwear line! Tell us what inspired you to design and launch Kamari Swim.

I felt I could never find swimwear I felt confident in. There was always something making me a little self-conscious and there’s no worse feeling than that.

How do you balance your schedule between modelling and now being an entrepreneur?

It balances out really well, thankfully. I usually model 2-3 days a week so on the days I am not working or shooting I’m able to sit down at my computer and do new things with Kamari. A plus side to technology these days is everything is in the palm of your hand so it’s much easier for me to manage my company even while on set. I feel very lucky.

What advice would you give to someone just starting their own business?

There are two things. First, find something you’re passionate about and learn how to make money doing it. If someone else can do it, you can too. You can only work long hours and not get burned out by it, if you truly love and believe in the service or product you are providing. Also, don’t give up. It is a lot of trial and error and you will come across bumps in the road but in the end, it is so rewarding.

How do you set Kamari Swim apart from other swimwear lines?

We are set apart from others with our styles and fun prints. Everything is funky, fun and bright all while being sexy and unique with styles. I also would say Kamari bikinis fit like no other with the best quality fabric. They are the most comfortable pieces I’ve ever owned and I’m really proud of that. All while being good quality and long-lasting in chlorine and salt water.

What have been some of your biggest learning experiences in running a business?

Lots of ups and downs, but mainly it’s all just teaching you for future success. The downs pivot you to where you and your business need to go (most of the time). It’s also taught me to be patient in other aspects of my life. Good things that are rewards take dedication, effort, time, work and grit. Nothing good happens overnight so you have to be patient and trust in the process.

Madison’s Holiday Rules

Favourite hotel?

I love to travel, so may I choose three?

Cabo: Waldorf Astoria Cabo

Bahamas: Rosewood Baha Mar

Italy: Mandarin Oriental

Where do you love to shop?

You’d be surprised but I am not that big of a shopper. When I do shop, I shop online and buy quality pieces I love and keep for a long period of time. Revolve of course for everything. I also love FWRD and SSENSE when shopping for luxury labels. I will also add, I will only buy sleepwear and robes from Meadow Moment. I don’t leave for a trip without my silk robe.

What is your travel style?

Comfortable when I’m travelling but I like to dress up when I’m on vacation and doing things. My favourite brands for travelling right now are Miaou.

Packing essentials?

Kamari Bikinis, my JS Health Vitamins, a robe, and a good book. That’s all you need.

What swimwear trend is a must this season?

A classic high waist one piece you can easily tan in. Classic, beautiful and sleek.

Your packing advice?

Well, I’m not sure if I have the best packing advice. If I did have anything at the top of my list would be to pack light by bringing the basics and planning my outfits before I travel. Honestly, I am the worst at this.

Skincare tips when travelling?

Water, vitamins and a great moisturizer with sunscreen. Let your skin breathe during the day.

What is your airport style?

Sweats or hoodies! Something I can easily sink into once I’m on the plane. I’m loving Boys Lie sets right now.

How do you stay in shape on vacation?

I don’t. If I’m travelling a lot, I do try to go to the gym and create some sort of routine, however, it can be really difficult when you’re living out of a suitcase and on vacation. I recently found Grace Albin, a Pilates and barre instructor on Instagram who has so many videos of short and effective workouts. I did them four days a week while I was travelling in November and they are a game changer. She shows you short workouts with little equipment that you can do anywhere. So those are the workouts I’ve been doing while on vacation recently.

Where is next on your travel bucket list?

I want to explore more of Italy next summer. I was grateful to visit Capri and attend the UNICEF gala this past year, but I’d love to see more of Italy and experience the culture, food, wine, hotels, restaurants, music and oceans.
