Your journey from a small Montenegrin village to becoming a successful model and influencer in the United States is truly inspiring. Can you share with us a pivotal moment or experience that shaped your path?
Ever since I was a child, I had a fascination with beauty. I recall how, as a young girl, I yearned to become a model. I would often go around the house in high heels, balancing a book on my head, wearing my mom’s clothes and makeup. My father, wanting his daughters to be strong and self-empowered, encouraged me to take up taekwondo and I loved it. It was my way of honoring him and after he passed away winning several times gave me the strength to connect with his memory and make him proud.
When I came to America, I seized the opportunity to pursue modelling. Determined to give it my all, I soon realized the profound impact that one’s past can have on shaping their future. This dedication led me to represent renowned brands that every aspiring model dreams of. The pinnacle of my career came when I walked the runway at the Victoria’s Secret fashion show—a transformative moment that opened doors for me to collaborate with esteemed individuals in the fashion industry.
With a background in Taekwondo and a black belt to your name, you clearly embody strength and discipline. How do you think your martial arts training has influenced your approach to life and your career in the fashion industry?
To be in this industry you have to be strongly minded otherwise the easiest path will be quitting, I believe discipline and consistency are the main keys to making it and I’m grateful for my parent who from a young age led into a sport that required physical and inner strength and to make me fight for anything I want. It takes courage to be vulnerable and put yourself out there.
Moving to the United States as a teenager must have been a significant transition. What were some of the biggest cultural differences you encountered, and how did they impact your personal growth and professional pursuits?
For me, it was the cultural shock of different experiences that included language, food, music, school, new friends, fashion, and opportunities especially coming from a small town with limited resources, this journey opened my eyes to the immense blessings we often take for granted without losing my own background. My aspiration is to be a beacon of empowerment for young girls, encouraging them to fearlessly chase their dreams while honouring their roots.
Being a model and influencer with a focus on health and wellness, what are some of your favourite workout routines or fitness activities? Any tips for staying motivated and consistent with exercise?
I have a passion for modelling and influencing others, I also recognize the importance of maintaining my image. I view each day as a personal competition, always striving to improve and I put into practice the discipline I learned as a child, my body, my temple. I enjoy creating workout routines for myself and my friends, making fitness as enjoyable and social as possible. While it can be challenging at times, I persevere and acknowledge the need to listen to my body – taking breaks when necessary. Managing the ups and downs of the female cycle is crucial, prioritizing self-care and wellness. I focus on long-term goals to stay motivated and disciplined. Embracing a healthy diet is a key part of my lifestyle and I also allow myself a treat day here and there, and that makes it all worthwhile.
You’ve graced the stages of prestigious fashion events and worked with renowned brands like Victoria’s Secret, Guess, and Carolina Herrera. Can you share a memorable behind-the-scenes moment from one of your photo shoots or fashion shows?
During my first fashion week in NYC, I stood amidst the bustling chaos and took a deep breath, absorbing the vibrant energy around me. At that moment, I realized that I was living my dream. Nothing could deter me, for I was exactly where I belonged.
With nearly a million followers, your influence extends far beyond the runway. How do you balance authenticity with the pressures of social media, and what advice would you give to aspiring influencers who look up to you?
In my world, I strive to stay true to myself by embracing beauty, fashion, and health. I am passionate about sharing tips, outfit ideas, and my experiences as a model. While the pressure in this industry, be it in modelling or on social media, can be intense, I make a conscious effort not to let it affect me. I believe that self-motivation is key, and ultimately, only you have the power to lift yourself up. So, my advice is to stay authentic, pursue your dreams fearlessly, and never lose sight of who you are.
As someone who values beauty and fashion, what are your go-to skincare or beauty rituals for maintaining a radiant complexion, especially amidst a busy schedule of photo shoots and travelling?
Growing up, I struggled with acne. To fight this, I prioritize my skincare routine. I make sure to stay hydrated, maintain a clean diet, use a gentle cleanser, avoid excessive sun exposure by wearing sunscreen daily, and love regular facials. Some of my favourite products that have significantly improved my skin include the salicylic acid pads and moisturizer from ZO Skin Health, SkinCeuticals moisturizer and night serum, Dr Obagi serum, and the refreshing Fresh kombucha toner. These products have truly transformed my skin for the better.
Having travelled extensively for work, what’s one destination that has left a lasting impression on you?
I always say … If I were a city, I would be Paris. I love the beauty of this city, from its magnificent architecture to its exquisite cuisine. Paris is the most romantic city in the world, and there’s nothing quite like it.
When you’re on the road for modelling gigs or leisure travel, what are your must-have items in your suitcase? Any packing tips or tricks you’ve learned along the way?
I simply can’t pack lightly, I prefer to bring everything I might need when travelling rather than risk being without it. I find comfort in having my most loved personal items with me or it can drive me a bit crazy. Although I have learned you can always go shopping for more.
After a busy week of photo shoots and events, how do you unwind and pamper yourself?
My favourite way to unwind and care for myself after travelling for work is by staying at home, going makeup-free, ordering food delivery, and enjoying a TV show while wrapped in my blanket and drinking chlorophyll water. Additionally, I try to incorporate lymphatic drainage massage into my routine to reconnect with my body.
